Review: Infected

Infected (Infected, #1)Infected by Scott Sigler
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

An interesting podcast crafted into a novel. It blends the zombie and techno-thriller genres and has all the elements of shock-horror: crude language, coarse joking, and over-the-top gore.
The ideas presented by Sigler are appealing, and his biological research was intriguing, but, overall, it was a frustrating read.
There are a lot of unnecessary details and information repeatedly communicated to the reader.
Several point-of-view characters convoluted the plot; causing it to chug along without answering any of the key questions presented to the reader: where did the virus come from, how were the specific characters infected, and how many overall were infected.
Characters arrived at convenient conclusions, which were not consistent with personality or personal history as presented to the reader.
Finally, there are just too many cliches, which is unfortunate, because I think Sigler is a very creative author.
